Founded in 1984 by Sophia Borek
Sophia Borek started her first cleaning company as a college student in communist-controlled Poland. She taught herself five different languages while working as a translator for an underground anti-communist newspaper, all while running a cleaning business on the side.
She knew she needed to leave Poland to reach her full potential. After years of waiting for immigration approval, Sophia made it to America and built Sophia's Cleaning Service from scratch in Chicago's western suburbs. She didn't have investors or a franchise behind her and she never asked for handouts. Everything the business became, she built herself.
What made Sophia different wasn't just the quality of her cleaning. She helped many of her cleaners learn English and guided them and their families through their first years as American citizens. She once arranged and paid for funeral services for a longtime client's family member. She covered her team's emergencies and treated every client's home like it belonged to a friend.
Her very first recurring clients, an elderly couple named Connie and Judson, became so close to the family that they eventually became godparents to Sophia's oldest son, Andre. When Judson passed away, Andre took his name as his middle name. That's the kind of lasting relationship Sophia built through her work.
For nearly three decades, Sophia grew the business into one of the most trusted maid services in the Chicago western suburbs, serving hundreds of homeowners across La Grange, Hinsdale, Brookfield, Downers Grove, and surrounding communities.
In 2012, Sophia was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer. She was 53, with no family history of the disease. She passed away a year later at the age of 54.

Andre sold his own company, moved back to Brookfield, and took over day-to-day operations. Years later, his wife Carol left her job as a teacher and joined to become co-owner.
